Why Joel Embiid is the NBA’s new franchise player

There’s a reason that Joel Embiid is slowly becoming a household name across the country. That reason? He is quickly becoming the next big thing in the basketball world. He is a fan favorite, and quite frankly, he is becoming as likable as players such as Steph Curry and LeBron James. Thats right, I just put Joel Embiid in the same breathe as Steph and LeBron. This guy was injured for his first two seasons in the NBA, after being the living, breathing definition of a risk reward pick when Philadelphia drafted him. An injury prone seven footer from Cameroon who had only been playing basketball for a few years, of course you have have to select him third overall, right? Of course! Why wouldn’t you the year after you draft Nerlens noel? Makes perfect sense.Well maybe not so much at the time, but now, it may have been the best move Philly has made since they drafted Allen Iverson in 1996.

Joel Embiid, other wise known as “The Process” can be found trending on twitter every other day. Is it for his all-star caliber play? Sometimes, it’s often also because he tweets at LeBron trying to recruit him to the 76ers, or he asks Kim Kardashian or Rihanna out on a date, or pretty much any other time he takes to social media it is must see TV. Embiid almost single handedly marketed himself into the All Star game as a third year rookie. He ended up third in fan voting in the Eastern Conference out of the font court players. How is it that a rookie on a minute restriction in Philadelphia does this? By simply averaging 20.2 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 2.1 APG and 2.5 BPG  in 25.4 MPG. It’s not just his infectious personality that has you on the edge of your seat every time he takes to the floor, it is his ability to shoot 36.7% from three point land as well as 78.3% from the free throw line. Not bad considering he is seven feet tall and currently second in the league in blocks only behind Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz.

Okay, we have established that he is hilarious to follow as well as fun to watch on the basketball court and his stats are the proof of that. What if you don’t believe me that some kid who didn’t get to play for a few years is so great to follow on social media? How could this dude have the confidence to ask out some of the most famed and fortuned women in the world? Well…I’ll let you think whatever you will about this guy on social media…

After he was unfortunately rejected by these celebrity A-Listers, he didn’t get great news about his LeBron James proposal either.

On the bright side he still can show love without remorse to his buddy at Kansas without the fear of rejection. There is so much to say about how quirky and funny this guy is, he even has the face of an upset and annoyed baby as his profile picture on Twitter during the time of these tweets. He has big aspirations for the season as he has told the media multiple times that he is thinking about the playoffs for Philadelphia this year. The 76ers are only about 5 games back of the 8 seed in the East, which leaves me wondering how seriously we should be taking Joel Embiid’s high hopes of the playoffs. Ben Simmons, the first selection in this years draft is expected to return to Philly’s active roster about the same time that Joel Embiid is going to have his minute restriction lifted.
So you tell me, how seriously should we take this not so serious budding superstars’ claims that they could be looking at the playoffs this year. While you ponder that, I’ll leave this last post here. This guy is hilarious.
