LeBron James is reportedly wiling to meet with multiple teams should he hit free agency this summer, not just the defending champions.
ESPN’s Chris Haynes reported late Wednesday night James would be willing to have a free agency meeting with the Golden State Warriors if they could find a way to clear a max salary slot. The reasoning: James respects Golden State enough to at least hear what Bob Myers and Joe Lacob have to say should the opportunity present itself.
But the Warriors aren’t the only team James would be willing to listen to. Haynes went on ESPN Radio in Los Angeles Thursday morning and indicated James would also be willing to meet with other recent NBA Finals champions, like the Spurs and Heat, in addition to his current team, the Cavs, Lakers and Rockets.
Obviously James’ openness to meet with Golden State became an enormous story Thursday morning. But James is far more likely to end up elsewhere, or stay in Cleveland, than join the team he squared off against in the last three NBA Finals that already has the highest payroll in the NBA featuring four All-Stars and a pair of MVPs in Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.
